I know many mamas who ideally want to jump into the non-toxic lifestyle but don’t necessarily want to go through the cumbersome research and trial-and-error process. It can get overwhelming, I get it! That’s why I’m sharing my favorite non-toxic baby products that I can stand by to help you in your non-toxic journey!
Sadly, even the best products out there have its downsides (depending on the experience) but they’re really helpful to know before committing to a certain brand/product which is why I’m including them here. I’ve also included close runner-ups for those mamas who want more choices! Read on to find out what my favorites are:
Pros
- Compostable, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and unscented
- Subscription based so you can forget about ordering it every time you’re running low
- They have an amazing SOS feature that can get your diapers delivered to you overnight or within a few hours depending on where you are located
- Wetness indicator
Con(s)
- For some reason I find these diapers begin to smell when wet so I err on the side of changing my baby’s diaper ASAP which can get pretty exhausting!
- It’s a bit more on the pricier side of $68/box which includes up to 260 diapers (exact number depends on the size you get). That’s around 26-27 cents per diaper. The price is definitely comparable to other non-toxic brands out there but when compared to diapers such as Pampers Swaddlers, it’s definitely a few cents more expensive per diaper
Close runner-up: Honest Company Diapers
Pros
- Unscented and made with only 2 ingredients (water and a drop of fruit extract). I use this to wipe baby’s hands, face, and neck
- Best for sensitive skin in my opinion
- Price is comparable to other baby wipes. You can definitely save some $ buying in bulk
Con(s)
- It’s very smooth (which can also be a pro) but lacks the grip that might be needed to wipe #2s
Close runner-up: Babyganics wipes
Honest Company Hand Sanitizer Sprays
Pros
- Made without synthetic fragrances, parabens, triclosan, and benzalkonium chloride
- The grapefruit grove scent is heavenly (made with the actual fruit!)
- One spray goes a long way
Con(s)
- Because it’s a spray, other things besides your hands can get sprayed
Close runner-up: Babyganics Alcohol-Free Foaming Hand Sanitizer
Pros
- VERY gentle and tear free (I’d be lying if I said I don’t use this for myself)
- 2 in 1 (shampoo and body wash)
- Makes for a great bubble bath!
- Scented with essential oils
Con(s)
- It isn’t the most moisturizing (personally I don’t mind since I moisturize baby with lotion right after bath time)
Close runner-up: Pipette Baby Shampoo and Wash
Honest Company Soothing Bottom Wash
Pros
- The best thing next to water and soap for after your baby goes #2!
- Contains aloe to prevent irritation
- Small enough to carry in your diaper bag!
Con(s)
- Doesn’t spray well when used upside down
- Unscented so it doesn’t do a good job masking smell
Close runner-up: California Baby Calming Diaper Area Wash
Babo Botanicals Baby Sunscreen
Pros
- Fragrance free
- Comes in stick form as well as tube
- 80 minutes water resistant and reef safe
Con(s)
- Leaves a slight tacky feel and white cast on baby’s face
Close runner-up: Supergoop Sunnyscreen Lotion
Silicone Baby Teether with Rattle
Pros
- Made of silicone so it’s very easy to wash
- Soft for baby to chew
- Works as a teether and as a rattle toy for baby
Con(s)
- The ring was a bit thick to be used as a teether when baby was 3 months old. It wasn’t until she was about 5 months when she could comfortably use it as a teether
Close runner-up: Mombella Ellie the Elephant Blue Silicone Baby Teether Toy
Pros
- Free of BPA, PVC, and Phthalate
- Dual anti-colic vents
- Heat resistant (microwave-safe, sterilizer-safe, and dishwasher-safe)
Con(s)
- I found the bottle cap to be difficult to take off. A trick I learned from my husband is to squeeze the rim while taking off the cap.
Close runner-up: Tommee-tippee
Pros
- BPA and phthalate free
- Pocket catches ALL food, drool, liquids (definitely reduces the amount of laundry)
- Adjustable
Con(s)
- I found babies get pretty distracted with the silicone bibs with intricate designs during meal times. I found no problem with the ones with no designs, which Mushie has quite a collection of
Close runner-up: WeeSprout Silicone Bibs
Pros
- VERY soft 100% organic cotton muslin
- Breathable and light enough to carry around in your diaper bag
Con(s)
- Soft but fragile especially when it gets stuck to a velcro so please do not wash anything with velcro with these blankets
- Thin for the winter
Close runner-up: Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets
Pros
- Designs are amazing! I purchased 2 and we’ve been loving the patterns (baby seems to love it too!)
- 100% organic and hypoallergenic
Cons
- Pricier than other crib sheets but definitely comparable to other 100% organic crib sheets, especially when they’re on sale! (As of today, they’re on sale!)
Close runner-up: Burt’s Bees Baby organic crib sheets
Pros
- Made of non-toxic dyes
- Very breathable material for you and baby
- Can be comfortably worn with baby up to 25 pounds
- Easy care
Con(s)
- Pricey with a price-point hovering at around $65
- There’s a definite learning curve to properly carry baby with this wrap
Close runner-up: BabyBjorn Mini
Puracy Liquid Laundry Detergent
Pros:
- It’s concentrated so 4 pumps equal one large load
- While the detergent is mild enough to run baby laundry, it powerfully rids of tough stains
- Unscented versions available
- Can be used for everyone’s laundry (adult and baby-friendly)
Con(s):
- Contains borax (but a very small amount) as an enzyme stabilizer
- I find that the bottles that the detergents, soaps, and stain removers from this company leak easily or are easily damaged in the shipping process
Close runner-up: Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder
Pros:
- Gets rid of the toughest stains. It’s safe to say that there are absolutely no stains on any of baby’s clothes/bibs.
Cons:
- Again, I find that the bottles that the detergents, soaps, and stain removers from this company leak easily or are easily damaged in the shipping process
Close runner-up: Miss Mouth’s Messy Eater Baby Stain Remover
