Feeling defeated? 4 time-freeing tips you need to know!
The alarm goes off and you jump out of bed, motivated to take on the day. You had a talk with yourself yesterday and today is the day when you get it together. You are going to get s%!t done today.
But as the day goes on, your motivation and productivity deflate. You have so much you’re playing catch up on around the house (and let’s face it, in life), how did you ever think you were going to get to all the other stuff on your list?
Defeat gets the better of you, so you embrace it and start scrolling through Instagram.
I can feel the nods of agreement as I write this. You’ve been there. I’ve been there. This is a universal feeling, my friends. There is never enough time.
Oh, our good buddy time.
Time is one of those non-renewable resources that we always want more of, but can’t seem to get. Sadly, we can’t recreate it.
If only time were more like money. If we want more money, many of us can go out and make it. We can sell old items, pick up more hours, create things to sell…you name it, there are countless ways to get your hands on a little more money.
But time, we only get it once, and poof!, it’s gone. We each have the same number of seconds in our day.
So I ask you…
How are you using your 86,400 seconds today?
- Are you busy picking up after your kids??
- Are you reorganizing the same space over and over again? Does it feel like no one uses the space yet it’s constantly cluttered?
- Are you “catching up” on the latest Netflix series? (I mean, it does suck when there’s a meme out there and you don’t get the punchline…)
- Do you find yourself endlessly scrolling social media comparing your life to others “best of” moments?
- Are you stressing about what to make when it’s dinnertime?
- Are you constantly playing laundry catch up?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you all said yes to at least one of the above items (not to mention the things I didn’t even put on the list!).
It’s time to get real with yourself…is always feeling behind worth it? Do you have this nagging feeling that you should be doing something more epic with your time? Are you ready (like really ready) to make minuscule changes to your routine to free up more time?
Well, I’ve got good news! I have a few simple fixes to make you feel like you have more time, have a more organized home, and eliminate mealtime stress.
Liberate yourself from clutter
You see, most things in our homes are robbing us of our energy and resources. And no, I’m not talking about that tiny human on your leg that needs to gain their independence. I’m talking about all the “stuff.” Stuff that is shiny and pretty at first but quickly becomes an object to clean around. It takes our hard-earned money, then it nabs our precious time.
The first step in eliminating clutter from your home is to stop making impulse purchases.
“But I REALLY need (insert item here) because it will make my life so much easier!” Does this age-old justification ring a bell? I’ve been there, sister. Marketing gimmicks are there for a reason…to hook us and get us to buy a product that will magically transform our lives in some way.
In reality, when those items come into our house they likely serve a limited purpose. But we hang on to them anyway. We find a place to store it. We spent money on it so we try to force its value on ourselves. The item gets shuffled around a few times for a “better” place to put it (aka out of the way because you don’t use it) and/or we continue to clean around it. Or my favorite…we can’t find it once we actually need it – so we buy a duplicate. It never fails, as soon as we put the new one away – out pops the old one, right where we put it. Clutter, party of two.
You see, if we become more conscious about how we spend our money – we also save time.
Think of the time spent in this current cycle of “things”. You had to shop for the item, unpackaged it, used it, were typically disappointed in it, found a home for it (and sometimes bought more things to store it in), cleaned around it, organized it, tried to purge it – but kept it anyway.
By eliminating unnecessary spending, you eliminate additional clutter
Simplify your life
This leads me to my second step in decluttering your home. If you haven’t used it in a year, give it the boot!
I’m not saying you need to “Marie Kondo” your house, but decluttering can invariably save you time. If you spend a fraction of your time decluttering and purging possessions that don’t serve you a purpose, you spend less time organizing in your day and more time doing something that matters to you!
I’ve got a whole arsenal of declutter hacks for the home on my site. Check them out if you don’t know where to start!
Be intentional with your time
With extra time not spent cleaning up the same things over and over again, what would you do? Would you spend more quality time with your kids where you’re truly present? Would you start training for a 5k? Would you start that business you’ve always had a passion for but never had the time? Would you just give yourself more self-care?
Whatever your mission is in this chaotic life, I can help get you grooving in a new routine that will give you more time to chase your dreams!
But be prepared…I get real, raw, and honest.
YOU HAVE THE TIME, GIRL. You are just putting other meaningless things before your passion as an excuse.
Let’s discover where we can make shifts in your routine and uncover more time for you to be there for you!Let’s re-energize your passion! Most importantly, let’s power through when feeling defeated and don’t succumb to your newsfeeds.
